AVL-AST (AVL – ADVANCED SIMULATION TECHNOLOGIES)
AVL is the largest independent company for the development of powertrain systems with internal combustion engines, as well as testing equipment and systems.
The partnership programme created by AVL-Advanced Simulation Technologies is for cooperation with the academic community. The AVL-AST University Partnership Programme provides full access to a wide range of AVL-AST software products to support teaching and research activities.
Modern development software in the field of modeling processes in internal combustion engines and automobiles has been provided as part of the educational cooperation programme between AVL-AST and the Faculty of Transport at the university of Ruse.
The department conducts research in the following areas:
- Electronic control systems;
- Modeling and research of internal combustion engine processes;
- Environmental issues (emissions and methods for their reduction);
- Alternative fuels and additives;
- Fuel systems for gasoline and diesel engines;
- Integration of internal combustion engines into machines and equipment;
- Optimization of vehicle fuel consumption;
- Improvement of methods and means for designing, testing, and researching vehicles;
- Reduction of wheel tractor slippage;
- Research into the vibrations and noise of self-propelled machines;
- Improvement of the stability and handling of vehicles;
- Reduction of tire wear.
Teachers and students from the department actively participate in various international educational and research programmes such as TEMPUS, ERASMUS, and European Community Research Programmes. Students have the opportunity to study at various leading universities in Belgium, France, Italy, Austria, Germany, Greece, Poland, Croatia, Turkey, etc. within the framework of these programmes.
The electric car with which the team from the University of Ruse "Angel Kanchev" is participating in the Shell Eco-marathon Europe in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, was created with the active participation of students and lecturers from the department.
